Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida has revealed that the collaboration with Final Fantasy IX has no relation to a potential Final Fantasy IX remake.
During a recent interview, Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida was asked whether it would have been better from a marketing perspective to wait with the Final Fantasy IX collaboration until the Final Fantasy IX Remake is announced. In response, he said that the Creative Studio III views Final Fantasy XIV as a theme park for the Final Fantasy franchise. As such, the studio wanted to incorporate Final Fantasy IX into the game.
Yoshida clarified that Creative Studio III had never thought about doing Final Fantasy IX in relation to any sort of Final Fantasy IX Remake, at least not in that commercial sense. He added that it may have made sense to think about it that manner, but it was never the development team’s intention.
According to Yoshida, there are many within the development team who are huge fans of Final Fantasy IX. He also pointed out that the the game has a huge volume of content. If the studio was to wait for any sort of remake project before initiating a collaboration with Final Fantasy XIV, it would just be waiting for a long time: He jokingly added that if any development team at Square Enix was to potentially take on the arduous task of working on a remake of Final Fantasy IX, he would wish it the best of luck.
In related new, during a recent episode of Game Mess Mornings, host Jeff Grubb, who is known for his sources within the video game industry, had stated that the rumored Final Fantasy IX remake is real and that it will retain the classic turn-based combat seen in the original. He said that he heard about the existence of the project very recently.
