Forza Horizon 6 has moved into the top spot on Metacritic for 2026 releases, earning an aggregate score of 92 and surpassing Pokémon Pokopia, which currently sits at 89.
Based on Metacritic data gathered throughout the year, the racing title now leads a list filled with major releases and breakout hits spanning multiple genres. Playground Games’ latest entry has drawn strong praise from critics for its open-world depiction of Japan, detailed visuals, and refined driving mechanics.
The current top-rated games of 2026 include Resident Evil Requiem and Pokémon Pokopia at 89, followed by Mewgenics and Mixtape at 88. SAROS, Hermit and Pig, and PRAGMATA each hold scores of 87, while Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection and Nioh 3 round out the top 10 with 86.
Forza Horizon 6 has also posted strong numbers on Steam ahead of its full release. The game reached an all-time peak of 178,009 concurrent users despite currently being limited to early access buyers via the Premium Edition, priced at $120. The standard launch is scheduled for May 19.
Developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios, Forza Horizon 6 launches for Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC on May 19, 2026. A PlayStation 5 release is planned for later this year.
The game is set in a fictionalized version of Japan featuring locations inspired by Tokyo and Mount Fuji. Players begin as tourists before taking part in automotive events including Touge Battles and street circuits as they progress through the Horizon Festival ranks.
