Gears developer The Coalition has reportedly been working on “impressive things” for the third-person shooter series.
Windows Central editor and The Xbox Two podcast co-host Jez Corden revealed on Twitter that he’s heard some impressive things about what The Coalition has been working on with regards to the Gears series. He urged fans to be a little more patient, as it will ultimately be rewarded.
Not a whole lot is known about the next Gears title. It was previously rumored that The Coalition canceled other games in development at the studio in order to work on Gears 6. Speaking during an earlier episode of GiantBomb’s Game Mess Mornings, Jeff Grubb claimed that Gears 4 and 5 developer, The Coalition, had canceled its smaller non-Gears project along with another project, and that its next game would be Gears 6.
According to Grubb, The Coalition had been doing other things alongside the smaller project, including its support work for Halo Infinite and the development of The Matrix Unreal Engine 5 demo with Epic. However, he claimed that the smaller project as well as another unannounced project have been canceled by the studio. He said that this was also reflected by the layoffs that had happened at Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios, including The Coalition.
Grubb stated that, after the cancellation of two games by The Coalition, the studio had moved on to the next entry in the Gears of War series i.e. Gears 6. According to him, the developer had likely been working on the game for a while, and it is all set to be the studio’s next game.
In related news, it was recently revealed that the creator of the Gears of War series, Cliff Bleszinski, was at one point willing to return to the series, but Microsoft had shown no interest in pursuing the idea.
