Ghost of Yotei has been officially rated 19+ by the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea. The decision reflects the game’s mature content, which includes sexual themes, explicit violence, simulated gambling, and substance use.
Set in 17th-century Hokkaido, Ghost of Yotei follows the tale of a lone protagonist driven by vengeance after the brutal murder of their family. The rating classification provides insight into the title’s tone and mature direction.
According to the Korean ratings board, the game includes direct sexual expressions, with female character designs featuring sexually suggestive exposure. Combat scenes are described as graphically violent, with frequent depictions of blood and physical damage. The rating also highlights in-game mini-games that simulate speculative behavior, such as gambling with betting systems and payouts.
In addition, Ghost of Yotei portrays characters engaging in substance use, including smoking and alcohol consumption. These scenes are said to produce visual effects like screen blurring to reinforce their impact. The board cited Article 21 of the Act on the Promotion of the Game Industry and Article 7, Clause 4 of the Rating Classification Regulations in its decision to assign the adult-only label.
This classification indicates that the game is intended for mature audiences and will not be made available to minors in the region.
Ghost of Yotei is currently slated to launch on October 2, 2025, for PS5.
