The upcoming free update for God of War Ragnarok on December 12 introduces a new DLC titled “Valhalla”, which includes several intriguing easter eggs.
In the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC, players take Kratos, with Mimir by his side, on a journey through Valhalla, encountering various challenges and delving into Kratos’ past. The gameplay merges the established combat style of the series with new elements, ensuring a unique experience in each playthrough. This is achieved through varied enemy combinations and surprising developments during the game.
The DLC introduces an array of temporary enhancements, such as Glyphs, Stats, Perks, and Runic Attacks, each adding a distinct flavor to every attempt. Interestingly, armor in this DLC is designed only for visual impact, without influencing gameplay. Players can choose from five different difficulty levels, with each level offering its own set of rewards.
While the DLC is not out for a while, references to Greek Mythology can be found in the released trailer and promotional material for the game.
Greek Mythology Easter Eggs In God of War Ragnarok Valhalla
The artwork for God of War Ragnarok Valhalla itself is a big reference to the original God of War 2 cover art. See the comparison below.
This artwork was created for God of War 2, a game that revolves around Greek Mythology. If you haven’t played the original trilogy on PS2 or PS3, you might not be familiar with it. The other reference in the Valhalla seems to relate to the Cyclops, which were common enemies in the God of War universe set in Greek Mythology. You can see a comparison below.
Other references include the inclusion of the original theme from God of War. This can be heard in the GOW Ragnarok Valhalla trailer.
There might be more references to Greek mythology but we will find out once the free DLC drops on December 12.
