An old design document from the year 2001 for Rockstar Games’ GTA Online has managed to find its way onto the internet.
GTAForums user FrankieLiberty has leaked old Rockstar Games documents, including a GTA Online design document from 2021, claiming it was a protest against exploitation within the community. Their post calls out an individual who goes by the nickname “John Doe” for exploiting the Rockstar Games collecting community. As per the source, Doe has been getting rare and sensitive materials, such as design files and early versions of games, from former Rockstar employees who sold them secretly. He allegedly acts as a “middleman” to protect these sellers’ identities while making a lot of money for himself.
According to the GTAForums member, Doe’s business model involves shady practices, such as promising to sell things he doesn’t actually have and then charging inflated prices, buying items cheaply and reselling them at ridiculously high prices, and selling stolen or illegal content, such as early game builds, and making it seem like he’s doing the community a favor.
The source claims that Doe even asks buyers for personal documents under the pretense of “security,” but it’s clear he’s more concerned with making money than protecting anyone. Despite claiming he wants to keep things exclusive and secret, he allegedly sells the same items to multiple people at different prices, profiting massively. Over the years, Doe has earned tens of thousands of dollars, often reselling the same material to multiple parties.
FrankieLiberty has accused Doe of hurting the Rockstar community, exploiting his buyers, and damaging the reputation of Rockstar Games by enabling leaks of stolen material. They claim his behavior is selfish, greedy, and hypocritical, pretending to help the community while only caring about money. In response, the GTAForums member has decided to release some of the stolen Rockstar content, including documents and materials related to GTA games like San Andreas, Vice City Stories, and GTA Online, to devalue the items and stop Doe from profiting further.
