Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world action-adventure game, GTA VI, apparently features a procedural breakable glass system.
The LinkedIn profile of former Rockstar Games Graphics Programmer Brady Jessup (via videotechuk_ on Twitter/X) has revealed that the studio’s upcoming title, GTA VI, will feature a procedural breakable glass system for vehicles and props. In the description of his role at the company, the developer mentioned that he “took lead on the next generation procedural breakable glass system for vehicles and props.” However, the text was ultimately scrubbed from the LinkedIn profile, likely due to Rockstar Games’ strict policy on the sharing of development details.
While the aforementioned information is no longer present on Jessup’s LinkedIn profile, a quick search using the quoted text confirms that it was indeed removed sometime recently. The developer worked at Rockstar Games between February, 2020, and April, 2023, for a duration of 3 years and 3 months.
Procedural breakable glass is in line with the simulation and system-driven approach to the GTA series’ gameplay. Back in October, 2023, , Rockstar Mag learned that Rockstar Games is developing a new technology for water physics, which will be integrated into GTA VI. The team responsible for this endeavor is known as the “RAGE Technology Group,” a division of the Rockstar San Diego studio that created the company’s proprietary engine back in 2006. The engineers allegedly succeeded in implementing real-time simulation of water in the upcoming open-world game. Besides water physics, numerous improvements are allegedly being made to vehicle physics, primarily through an increased number of polygons in comparison to GTA V. This will allow for more precise deformations and, consequently, more realistic looking vehicular collisions. GTA VI is also said to feature a real weather system that will impact the game’s environment and gameplay.
GTA VI is set for release on November 19, 2026, for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
