The online multiplayer mode for Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world action-adventure game, GTA VI, is set for launch in 2027, according to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy mentioned spending “a lot of time” talking to people at Rockstar Games about the upcoming release of GTA VI and its impact on the live streaming platform. “We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators,” he said.
Clancy said that he expects to see a major increase in live stream viewership on Twitch with the release of GTA VI. However, in his enthusiasm, he seems to have revealed the launch window of the online multiplayer mode for GTA VI. “You are going to see this big bump with GTA VI, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer,” he stated.
Meanwhile, during its latest shareholder meeting, Take-Two Interactive recently reaffirmed that GTA VI is a single-player game and confirmed that GTA Online will continue to receive support following the upcoming game’s release. “GTA 6 is a single-player title and is due to release this November. We will continue to support GTA Online after GTA VI release and beyond,” the company said during the meeting.
While Take-Two Interactive confirmed that the current version GTA Online will remain supported after the arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI, the company didn’t rule out the existence of a successor to the popular multiplayer game.
GTA Online originally launched alongside Grand Theft Auto V and subsequently became a major standalone component of the franchise. Rockstar Games later made GTA Online available as a standalone product, allowing players to access the multiplayer experience without purchasing the single-player campaign.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
