Xbox Game Studios and Ninja Theory’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 has been in development for several years, and the impressive evolution in graphics from earlier trailers to the final release can be seen in our latest comparison.

As seen in the video below, a side-by-side comparison between the gameplay reveal trailer shown at The Game Awards 2021 and the final release highlights the improvements brought to the graphics in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 over time.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 has received rendering quality upgrades over the 2021 trailer, with notable improvements to the lighting and character skin and eyes. Post-process effects have also been improved in the game’s final build. There are some other notable differences across both versions of the game, though they are likely due to artistic choice. For example, the camera pans differently and from a farther distance in the newer version of the cutscene. Additionally, the color tone is now more saturated compared to the earlier footage. Meanwhile, comparing the 2023 trailer for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 with the game’s final release shows more subtle differences. It essentially comes down to minor differences in post-process and color tone.

While 2 the visuals on display in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 are quite spectacular, they come at a price on Xbox Series X|S, as the console version not only runs at a dynamic resolution but also doesn’t support a 60 fps mode. The game targets a frame rate of 30 fps on both current-gen Xbox consoles. There are no graphics modes options available in the Xbox Series X|S versions of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, and those who are looking to play the game at 60 fps will need to invest in a capable PC. The PC version was recently modded by Flat2VR to also be playable in VR, though only high-end systems will deliver an experience without major compromises to the graphical settings.
