Former PlatinumGames director and Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya has made it clear that any decisions regarding a potential Bayonetta 3 upgrade for the Nintendo Switch 2 are out of his hands. Responding to a fan on social media who asked about the possibility of a next-generation version, Kamiya replied in his characteristically blunt style: “Go tell the rightsholder, you insect.”
The exchange began when a fan expressed their desire for a “Bayonetta 3 Switch 2 edition” under Kamiya’s post. The developer, who has become known for his candid and sometimes sharp responses, redirected the conversation toward those responsible for the franchise’s ownership. This interaction followed another message in which he thanked a supporter who showcased the Bayonetta trilogy, responding simply, “Thank you for your patronage.”
Released on October 28, 2022, Bayonetta 3 marked the long-awaited continuation of the action-adventure hack-and-slash series, developed by PlatinumGames and published exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
Kamiya’s departure from PlatinumGames in 2023 followed creative disagreements over the company’s direction. After leaving, he established his own independent studio, CLOVERS Inc., a venture focused on smaller but creatively driven projects. The studio’s debut title, an untitled sequel to Ōkami, is currently in development in collaboration with Capcom.
As for PlatinumGames, the developer has continued to pursue major projects, including Ninja Gaiden 4, which launched in October 2025, and an as-yet-unannounced online action game. For now, fans longing for a Bayonetta 3 upgrade on Nintendo’s latest hardware will have to take Kamiya’s advice and direct their requests to the rights holder—most likely, Nintendo itself.
