Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Dev Says Xbox Series S Helped Optimize The Game For Other Platforms

The Xbox Series S version of Deep Silver and Warhorse Studios’ action role-playing game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, helped in optimizing the game for other platforms.

During an interview on the Iron Lord Podcast, Sir Tobi, PR Manager at Warhorse Studios, was asked about whether the studio was actively pursuing a 60 fps Performance mode for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 on consoles, or if the development team just happened to find a way to get it to run at a higher frame rate. In response, he said that it was a bit of both.

According to Tobi, the priority for Warhorse Studios was to ensure that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 runs at a stable 30 fps, with no drops in frame rate. Then, the development team found out that it can do more with performance on consoles, especially with the arrival of the PS5 Pro, and so it began testing a few things here and there. Furthermore, he revealed that the the optimizations made for the Xbox series S version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 also helped greatly in optimizing for the others platforms.

Tobi highlighted that the Xbox Series S is the weakest of the current-gen consoles. As such, since the development team has to dial down on graphical settings, be clever with the programming, and be able to save on memory here and there. He said that, as a developer, one can either go full force ahead by pushing the more powerful consoles, or one can use those memory savings found with the Xbox Series S to make them run smoother. He added that this doesn’t necessarily mean the game will look worse as a result, but it will run better with the help of these optimizations.

With regards to performance, the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S versions of the game target a frame rate of 30 fps in Quality mode. In Performance mode, PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X target a frame rate of 60 fps on a 60 Hz display, and above 60 fps on a 120 Hz display that supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).
