Koei Tecmo has officially started celebrating the 25th anniversary of its long-running Dynasty Warriors franchise by putting out a special trailer that hints at new stuff coming, including a new remaster and major DLC for Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The trailer went up on the publisher’s official YouTube channel and takes a nostalgic trip through how the series has changed over the years while also giving us a peek at what’s coming next.
In the brief announcement, Koei Tecmo expressed appreciation to fans, stating, “To commemorate 25 years of the DYNASTY WARRIORS series, we have released a brand-new trailer reflecting on the franchise to date. Thank you for your continued support, and look forward to more DYNASTY WARRIORS news in the near future.”
They didn’t say which game in the series is getting the remaster treatment, but the trailer’s mix of past games and character designs has gotten fans talking and guessing like crazy. Same goes for the “major DLC” announcement for Dynasty Warriors: Origins—they didn’t give us a timeline or say what’s actually in it. But it does show that Koei Tecmo wants to keep adding stuff to the newest game after it comes out.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins, released in January 2025, marked the tenth main installment in the action-packed hack-and-slash franchise. Developed by Omega Force and released across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows, the game garnered generally positive critical reception upon release and surpassed 1 million units sold within its first month. With large-scale battles, revamped gameplay mechanics, and a return to core franchise themes, it was seen as a return to form by long-time followers.
Dynasty Warriors first came out in 1997 as a one-on-one fighting game, but it quickly switched to the hack-and-slash style with its second game, which set up how future games would work. Set during the crazy times of China’s Three Kingdoms period, the series loosely follows the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, mixing real historical people with over-the-top action scenes. Over the years, the franchise has become known for its huge character rosters, massive battles, and the signature Musou-style gameplay.
Even though critics have been hot and cold on it over the years, Dynasty Warriors is still one of Koei Tecmo’s longest-running and most successful series, with over 21 million copies sold worldwide as of early 2020. The series has spread across multiple platforms, spawned spin-offs, and teamed up with other franchises like Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors.
Since they didn’t give us a release window or breakdown of what’s in the teased remaster or upcoming DLC, fans will have to wait for more announcements. Knowing how the studio usually does things, we’ll probably get more details in the coming months, maybe during one of the big gaming events.
