Lies of P is developed in Unreal Engine 4, and a potential sequel may not be released until the year 2027. As such, the switch to Unreal Engine 5 for the next project makes sense for the development team at Neowiz Games. The game was released for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on September 19, 2023. It draws inspiration from the 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi.

The story follows Pinocchio, as he wakes up in an empty train and discovers he is in the city of Krat. The puppet population has revolted against the Grand Covenant, leading to the massacre of most humans. Pinocchio heads to Hotel Krat, where survivors, including Sophia, are seeking refuge. Sophia instructs Pinocchio to locate and save his creator, Geppetto, the only person capable of halting the puppet rebellion. She provides Pinocchio with a lantern containing a cricket named Gemini to assist him on his mission.

The game is played from a third-person perspective, with players controlling the humanoid Pinocchio as he traverses the city of Krat on foot. Gameplay involves exploration and combat against biomechanical foes using a variety of weapons such as swords and axes. Pinocchio’s abilities include dodging, blocking, and utilizing a mechanical arm equipped with gadgets like a grappling hook or flamethrower. The weapon and crafting system offers 30 different weapon types with 100 combinations. Lies of P incorporates a “Lying System,” where player decisions in specific situations influence the narrative, leading to three possible endings.
