Nintendo has announced that Luigi’s Mansion, the original ghost-hunting adventure starring Mario’s timid brother, will arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 through the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library on October 30. The release, timed perfectly for Halloween, will be available to players who subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service.
Originally released in 2001 as a launch title for the Nintendo GameCube, Luigi’s Mansion follows Luigi after he unexpectedly wins a mysterious mansion in a contest he never entered. Upon arrival, he discovers the residence is infested with ghosts and that Mario has gone missing. Equipped with Professor E. Gadd’s Poltergust 3000 vacuum and the Game Boy Horror device, Luigi must capture restless spirits, uncover hidden secrets, and save his brother from the haunted estate.
Nintendo highlighted that the addition of Luigi’s Mansion completes the trilogy’s availability on the Nintendo Switch 2 platform. Players can now experience all three titles in the series—Luigi’s Mansion (GameCube), Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, and Luigi’s Mansion 3—on a single system.
The GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection is one of several libraries included with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, which also grants access to titles from the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 64 catalogs, in addition to other benefits. Subscribers can also access downloadable content for select games, cloud saves, online multiplayer in compatible titles, and exclusive digital and physical rewards, such as the Nintendo GameCube controller designed for the Switch 2.
With its Halloween release date, Luigi’s Mansion returns as one of Nintendo’s most fitting seasonal titles. The game’s mix of puzzle-solving, atmospheric exploration, and lighthearted humor helped establish Luigi as a leading character in his own right and set the stage for one of Nintendo’s most enduring subseries.
Players can access Luigi’s Mansion starting October 30 through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.
