Report: Mario + Rabbids Team Pitched New Game Concept Before Disbanding, But Proposal Was Rejected

by Muhammad Ali Bari

The Mario + Rabbids team had pitched the concept for a new game before disbanding, but the proposal was rejected, according to a report.

During the latest episode of The Game Business Show on YouTube, host Christopher Dring and co-host Chris Plante talked about the market data for Nintendo Switch 2 around third-party games. Dring brought up the development team behind the Mario + Rabbits series, noting that it has largely disbanded. Athough Ubisoft Milan still exists, he mentioned that the people behind the series have gone and formed a new studio.

Dring also said that he’s aware of the Mario + Rabbids team pitching a new game in the series that didn’t get approved. He doesn’t know why this was the case, but it is something that didn’t go forward, and he believes the reason was tied to Nintendo. It’s possible that Ubisoft was looking to publish a multiplatform title and Nintendo wasn’t interested in pursuing a venture of that nature with its Mario IP.

It looks like we won’t be seeing a new entry in the Mario + Rabbids series anytime soon, but fans of the first game can check out the sequel, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, on Nintendo Switch if they haven’t done so already. In our review, we recognized it as a worth sequel a good sequel with excellent combat, progression, and open-ended level design.  It is bigger than its predecessor, providing multiple planets to explore. Each of these planets has its own set of missions, creatures, enemies to tackle, and unique mysteries and collectibles to discover. We also found both the main and side quests to be entertaining. Some of it may be basic fetch quests, like killing ‘X’ amount of enemies, but most of it is engaging. Battles enable a character to perform many combos, resulting in a rewarding gameplay experience.
