Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, the upcoming 4v4 fighting game from Arc System Works, is shaping up to be a major entry in both the Marvel and competitive fighting game scenes. According to a screenshot of the current character selection screen, the game may feature as many as 35 playable characters. While the full roster has not been officially confirmed, the image suggests a sizeable cast, which would make Fighting Souls one of the most expansive Marvel-based fighting games to date.
Further details about the game emerged through the official PlayStation Blog, where it was announced that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be playable for the first time at EVO Las Vegas 2025. The demo will be hosted at the Arc System Works booth, allowing attendees to test the game’s mechanics and construct a custom team of four fighters from a limited six-character roster. The playable lineup includes iconic Marvel heroes and villains: Captain America, Iron Man, Storm, Star-Lord, Ms. Marvel, and Doctor Doom.
Reed Baird, Senior Producer at PlayStation XDEV, shared the announcement alongside news of an upcoming Developer Combat Panel scheduled for August 1 at 8 PM PT. The panel will be livestreamed on the Evo Events YouTube channel and will include key members from both Arc System Works and Marvel Games, who will be discussing the core mechanics and design goals behind the title.
Game Director Kazuto “Pachi” Sekine also issued a message expressing appreciation for the positive reception following the game’s announcement at Sony’s June State of Play presentation. Sekine remarked, “The game is still under development, but we’re really looking forward to sharing more in our Evo panel, and especially for fans to try it out for themselves with the very first trial version at the event.” He added that the team is experimenting with new ideas to create a “fresh experience” for players.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is built around a 4v4 combat system that allows one primary fighter and three assist characters, offering a flexible and layered approach to team dynamics. Players can execute active tag mechanics and perform environment-shifting wall breaks that transition the battle across different arenas within a single stage—features that align with Arc System Works’ signature design elements seen in titles like Guilty Gear.
The game marks Sony Interactive Entertainment’s latest collaboration with Marvel Games, following the success of the Marvel’s Spider-Man series. Developed exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PC, Fighting Souls is expected to provide an accessible but deeply competitive experience. It will be the first new Marvel fighting game since Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite released in 2017.
