The development of Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games’ upcoming superhero action game, Marvel’s Wolverine, is reportedly progressing well despite its creative director’s departure.
During the latest episode of Game Mess Decides, hosts Jeff Grubb and Mike Minotti talked about the recent departure of Brian Horton, former creative director on Marvel’s Wolverine, from Insomniac Games, and how it may have affected the game’s development. The developer had been off the project since summer, and has now joined The Initiative as creative director to work on Perfect Dark.
Grubb believes that Marvel’s Wolverine is going to be just fine because Insomniac Games has the institutional knowledge to make these games really well each and every time. He pointed out that it is the studio’s second Marvel franchise besides Spider-Man, and that it is working on titles based on the top two Marvel superheroes. Despite the recent data theft being a setback for the studio, he has all the faith in the world that Insomniac Games will be able to pull Marvel’s Wolverine off.
Recently, known insider Kurakasis had shared that, after doing some digging, they learned that Sony Interactive Entertainment is preparing to to showcase new footage from Marvel’s Wolverine. Though, they added that it’s tough for them to determine when exactly this will happen. Based on the insider’s guess, the possible Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay reveal will likely happen this year in 2024, either at The Game Awards 2024 or at some other unannounced event. Sony Interactive Entertainment may have a PlayStation showcase or State of Play presentation planned for sometime during November or December.
It was also reported that Marvel’s Wolverine is potentially far into development, as the game’s narrative and art directors had left the studio to work on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel at CD Projekt. Mary Kenney, former Associate Narrative Director on Marvel’s Wolverine at Insomniac Games, is now working as a Senior Writer at CD Projekt Red on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
