EA and Bioware’s next entry in the Mass Effect action role-playing game series, dubbed Mass Effect 5, will maintain the mature tone of the original trilogy.
Michael Gamble, project director and executive producer on Mass Effect 5 at Bioware, took to Twitter/X to address questions people had been asking him about the game, especially now that the studio’s other action role-playing title, Dragon Age: Veilguard, is nearing its release on October 31, 2024.
With respect to questions regarding the tone of Mass Effect 5, Gamble said that the game will maintain the mature tone of the original trilogy. Though, this is all he was able to share for now.
A fan pointed out to him that Mass Effect, including the original trilogy, has always had its fair share of humor and silliness. In response, Gamble clarified that it was more a case of serious characters being put in some humorous situations.
Going by Gamble’s statement, it looks like Bioware is looking to return to the series roots and avoid the mistakes it had made with Mass Effect: Andromeda. It helps that the development leads behind Mass Effect 5 are mostly veterans who have worked on the original trilogy. Mass Effect and Dragon Age content creator kalaeliabeth had recently revealed that several of these developers have been at Bioware since the very beginning. As such, she believes that the next entry is in capable hands, and that those claiming everyone in the original development team is no longer a part of Bioware are being disrespectful to those who are still at the studio.
The information provided by the content creator was immediately put under doubt, and naysayers asked her to provide a source for her claim. It was then that Gamble stepped in to offer clarification on the matter. He mentioned that the Executive Producer (himself), the Art Director, the Creative Director, and the Game Director are all veterans who have worked on the original trilogy.
