Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake/Original Comparison Shows Massive Graphical Leap

by Muhammad Ali Bari

With the recent release of the first ever in-engine footage from the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, it is now possible to do a more thorough graphical comparison between the new and original versions of the game.

The video below shows a comparison between the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and its forthcoming remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, based on in-engine footage from the latter that was revealed by Konami during a recent Xbox livestream. As we’ve already seen in our prior screenshot comparison, the remake, which will see the light of day around 20 years after the release of the original, exhibits a massive leap in terms of visual fidelity, with environmental assets and character models all done from scratch.

Metal Gear Solid Delta vs Metal Gear Solid 3 Graphical Comparison

The aforementioned video comparison between Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and the original Metal Gear Solid 3 can be seen below.

Mud is now seen on Snake’s head and body as he emerges from the swamp. Such attention to detail was not present in the original, as indicated by the comparison. Additionally, environmental objects in the remake, such as grass, react more realistically as Snake passes through, suggesting a complete physics overhaul.

In terms of animation work, some of the original animations appear to be intact, such as those seen on the game’s wild life. On the other hand, Snake’s animations appear to have been overhauled, and are now more fluid and lifelike.

The development team has confirmed that it will evolve the core mechanics and visuals, while the story, voice overs, objectives, and level design will remain faithful to the original. It will be tough for the development team to please all fans, as some will want a re-imagined take, where creative liberties are taken with the source material, while others will want nothing other than a graphical upgrade with Quality of Life changes and a largely faithful recreation of the original that is along the lines of Bluepoint Games’ Demon’s Souls remake. Konami appears to be aiming for a middle ground for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
