Metaphor Re:Fantazio Anime Adaptation Is Reportedly In The Works

by Muhammad Ali Bari

An anime adaptation of Sega and Atlus’ role-playing game, Metaphor Re:Fantazio is currently in the works, based on a new report.

According to AniRave, one of the largest anime news pages on Twitter/X, a TV anime series based on Metaphor: Re:Fantazio is currently in talks. This should come as no surprise, however, as Atlus has also been involved in the production of anime series based on its previous titles, such as Persona 5.

Metaphor re:fantazio anime

While Atlus doesn’t have the best track record with anime adaptions of its games, it would undoubtedly be a way to invite anime enthusiasts outside of the gaming community to give the game a try. At the very least, we hope that I the TV series is given at least 25 Episodes to 50 Episodes to flesh out the narratives and characters, possibly across multiple seasons,  instead of rushing it like the Persona 5 anime adaptation. There’s also the possibility of changing some of the story beats to give fans of the game a reason to be excited about the TV series.

In related news, during a recent interview with Famitsu, Metaphor: ReFantazio game director Katsura Hashino was asked about the kind of title he is planning to make next. In his response, he revealed that him and his team have already started working on their next project. Hashino explained that he doesn’t really think about it as an individual. Instead, he said that he views Atlus as a whole and thinks about what the development team should work on next.

Earlier, it was reported that Metaphor: ReFantazio is now the most successful launch for an Atlus game on the platform. The role-playing game has reached an all-time peak of 85,961 players since its release on October 11, 2024. In comparison to Metaphor: ReFantazio’s current all-time peak of 61,969 players, Persona 3 Reload has a concurrent player count of 45,002 players and Persona 5 Royal has a concurrent player count of 35,474 players.
