Mortal Kombat 1 Roster Leak Confirms 19 Playable Characters

A new roster leak for Warner Bros Games and NetherRealm’s upcoming fighting game reboot, Mortal Kombat 1, has confirmed a total of 19 playable characters thus far.

GameFAQs message boards member r00000r is known for accurately leaking information regarding Mortal Kombat 11 in the past, including details on the game’s story, DLC fighters and the Aftermath expansion. Additionally, his Mortal Kombat 1 story leak script was backed by another leaker, Fateunknown, who had correctly stated that Kenshi and Johnny Cage would be seen in the recent gameplay reveal at Summer Games Fest with ties to the Yazuka. A fake leaker had recently sent the GameFAQs member a list of characters, and he responded by pointing out which are not featured in the game. As a result, he has indirectly confirmed the remaining 19 characters on the list.

According to the leaker, Cyrax, Sektor, Jade, and a female variant of Nightwolf will not be featured as playable characters in Mortal Kombat 1. As the game’s Director, Ed Boon, had stated during a recent episode of The Jeff Gerstmann Show, the story dictates who is part of the main roster and who is a kameo character. For example, Cassie and the other Kombat Kids are not born yet in the game’s timeline.

Boon revealed that the game runs on Unreal Engine 4. Due to switching the newer engine prior to the pandemic, the added delay would have resulted in a 7-year gap between Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 1, had the team also worked on Injustice 3. The development team felt that this would’ve been too lengthy a period between two consecutive Mortal Kombat titles. Therefore, they decided to skip working on Injustice 3 for now and focus on Mortal Kombat 1 instead.
