Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate was updated to add support for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This leads to a higher resolution and faster load times on PS5 and XSX.
According to a new analysis done by our friends at VGTech, the game appears to have a slight advantage on the Xbox Series X with a higher and more consistent dynamic 4K resolution compared to the PS5.
In their analysis, VGTech has also calculated the frame rate of the new consoles. In this case, the Xbox Series X is practically flawless while the PS5 exhibits a very rare frame rate drop in a particular stage.
Here’s what VGTech had to share regarding the performance of the game on the next-generation of consoles.
PS5 uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 3840×2160 and the lowest resolution found being approximately 3328×1872. Xbox Series X uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 3840×2160 and the lowest resolution found being approximately 3584×2016. The resolution seems to very rarely drop below 3840×2160 on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The only resolution found on PS5 and Xbox Series X during the scenes capped at 30fps was 3840×2160.
This brings us to the Xbox Series S version. This also runs at a dynamic 4K resolution but fails to hit 4K in most cases. According to the channel, it ranges from 3456×1944 to 2560×1440 for its dynamic resolution.
Sadly, one aspect that appears to have remained untouched in the frame rate when running the game cinematics or finishers which take the control away from the player. These still run at locked 30 FPS so this could be a design choice instead of a technical limitation.
