Netflix Reveals First Teaser for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run

by Greg Martin

Netflix has officially unveiled the first trailer for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run, marking the anime debut of one of the series’ most celebrated story arcs. Adapted from Hirohiko Araki’s long-running manga, the seventh part transports viewers to a brand-new continuity, distinct from the first six installments, with a fresh cast of characters and a bold new setting.

Serialized between 2004 and 2011, Steel Ball Run is set in the United States in 1890 and centers on a cross-country horse race stretching from San Diego to New York City. The story combines high-stakes competition with the supernatural elements that define the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise. This arc introduces a reimagined version of the Joestar bloodline and revisits familiar themes of legacy, destiny, and the clash between extraordinary powers.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure first began publication in 1987 and has since become one of Japan’s most influential manga series. Known for its flamboyant art style, signature poses, and constantly shifting narrative, the franchise is divided into multiple parts, each with a different protagonist nicknamed “JoJo.” The earlier chapters featured battles fought using the mystical energy known as Hamon, but beginning with Part 3, the focus shifted to Stands—spiritual manifestations of a person’s fighting spirit that come with unique abilities. These Stand battles have become a hallmark of the series, praised for their strategic creativity and unpredictable twists.

The anime adaptation, produced by David Production, has steadily worked through Araki’s sprawling saga, from Phantom Blood all the way through Stone Ocean. With Steel Ball Run, the series ventures into new territory, leaving behind the original timeline and embarking on a fresh reinterpretation of its characters and mythology. For fans, the announcement represents both a continuation of the beloved anime and the beginning of an entirely new chapter.

No release window has been announced yet for Steel Ball Run, but the unveiling of its first trailer signals that Netflix is positioning the adaptation as one of its major upcoming anime projects. With anticipation running high, longtime fans and newcomers alike are eager to see how the studio brings Araki’s boldest reimagining to life on screen.
