New DualSense Controller Reportedly Brings A Major Boost To Battery Life

by Muhammad Ali Bari

The latest DualSense controller hardware revision brings a major boost to battery life, according to a new report.

According to an early report via modder and technician Modyfikator89 on Twitter/X, the new CFI-ZCT2W revision of the DualSense controller offers an extended battery life. The latest version of the PS5 controller comes with new BDM-060 board that achieves a longer playtime by removing components such as the secondary mic and optimizing the electronics.

How To Look For The DualSense CFI-ZCT2W Model On The Packaging

Those looking to grab the new DualSense revision can do so via:

  • All PS5 Pro bundles (CFI-7121)
  • New PS5 Slim bundles (CFI-2116)
  • New Color/Themed DualSense (e.g. Icon Blue Special Edition controller, Ghost of Yōtei Gold Limited Edition controller)

Look for the model number ‘CFI-ZCT2W’ at the bottom of the packaging, as seen in the image below.

The same modder recently shared that Sony Interactive Entertainment has apparently removed the PS5 internet connection requirement for pairing a disc drive and incorporated the PS5 Pro’s cooling system with the base console’s new CFI-2100/2116 model. On previous PS5 models that support a modular disc drive, adding a new drive required an internet connection when using it for the first time. This no longer appears to be the case on the new CFI-2100/2116 model.

Furthermore, the new cooling system is a major step for the console’s longevity and stability, as it gets rid of concerns regarding thermal degradation issues. For the uninitiated, Sony Interactive Entertainment hardware engineers introduced grooves to the PS5 Pro SoC heatsink in order create a capillary effect that allows the liquid metal to remain in place and spread evenly across the chip. The grooves prevent liquid metal leakage during assembly and over long-term use. The metal leak issue affected the original PS5 and Slim CFI-2016 models from 2023.
