New Spyro Project Allegedly Leaked Through Former Dev’s LinkedIn Profile

by Salal Awan

A potential new Spyro game may have been inadvertently revealed through a former Toys For Bob developer’s LinkedIn profile, sparking renewed discussion around the long-dormant franchise. The leak (via Canadian Guy) centers on Donald Yatomi, an ex-Toys For Bob developer, who listed Spyro as one of the IPs he worked on during his time at the studio, alongside Call of Duty. The listing suggests active development work on a Spyro project well after the release of the last mainline entry.

According to the information shared, Yatomi joined Toys For Bob in 2022 and continued working there until 2024. During that period, Spyro was explicitly mentioned as an active IP, despite the fact that the most recent Spyro release was the Spyro Reignited Trilogy in 2018. This implies that some form of Spyro-related project was in development internally, even if it was never publicly announced.

It is important to note that this information does not confirm that a new Spyro game is currently in development or nearing release. The nature of the project remains unclear, and it is unknown whether the work referenced was tied to a full sequel, such as a potential Spyro 4, or a smaller-scale project that may have since been canceled. As with many unannounced titles, internal development does not always translate into a finished or released product, and that uncertainty remains here.

The situation is further complicated by the current ownership structure. With Microsoft now overseeing Activision, any future Spyro project would require approval under that leadership. Whether such a project was ever formally greenlit, paused, or shelved has not been disclosed, leaving fans to speculate based on limited but intriguing clues.

Spyro the Dragon has long been a foundational name in the 3D platforming genre. The series originally debuted on September 9, 1998, as a PlayStation exclusive developed by Insomniac Games. Over the years, it expanded through multiple reboots and spin-offs, including The Legend of Spyro trilogy and the Skylanders series, before returning to its classic roots with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy developed by Toys For Bob. That collection launched in November 2018 and later released on additional platforms in 2019.

While Spyro has largely appeared only in cameo roles in recent years, interest in the character has not faded. Combined with the now independent Toys For Bob teasing future projects, this LinkedIn discovery has added fuel to speculation that the purple dragon may be preparing for a more substantial return. For now, however, the alleged leak remains unconfirmed, and any official announcement has yet to emerge.
