The next-generation Xbox controller may offer features that are similar to those available on the PS5’s DualSense controller, according to a new rumor.

The Twitter/X account for Red Better xCloud, a free and open-source tool that improves Xbox Cloud Gaming and Remote Play experiences, has shared a screenshot of an xCloud file that indicates Microsoft is working on a new Xbox controller with features similar to those seen on the PS5’s DualSense controller.

The xCloud file contains some new codenames, namely Sebile_Delgado, Sebile_EV1B, Actium_Duet, and Actium_Evo, suggesting that this controller will be compatible with the next-generation Xbox console. It’s also possible that it may be launched a little earlier with support for the Xbox Series X|S, as it is already listed in the xCloud files.

According to known insider and content creator eXtas1stv, the new Xbox controller is said to come with modular and improved haptics, similar to those found on the DualSense controller. Additionally, it will no longer feature replaceable batteries and will instead come with an internal rechargeable battery, as is already the case with the PlayStation family of wireless controllers. The next-generation Xbox controller is also said to allow users to perform a gesture to bring  it to an “awake” state. Going by the leaked information, Microsoft appears to be looking to replicate the features offered by the PS5’s DualSense controller alongside Xbox’s own design and ergonomics.

Back in 2021, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer had talked about the features Sony Interactive Entertainment had incorporated in the DualSense controller, and how Microsoft could bring them in future Xbox controllers. He praised PlayStation for doing a nice job with the DualSense controller, saying that he felt some of its features should be available on Xbox controllers. At the time, however, he mentioned that the company wasn’t in a place to work on more bespoke accessories.
