Nintendo has asked fans to “stay tuned” for a new mainline Mario game for its upcoming console, the Switch 2.
During an interview with CNN ahead of the company’s decision to delay US pre-orders for the Switch 2, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser was asked about the absence of a new mainline Mario title during its recent Direct presentation. “Stay tuned,” he said in response. “You know, we have a long, long catalog, and a long list of (intellectual property) that I’m sure will make its way to the platform.”

Going by Bowser’s statement, a new 3D Mario game may be on the horizon in the near future, possibly by the end of 2025. The company will undoubtedly have a strong lineup of titles for the holiday period. The original Switch launched in March, 2017, and was followed by the release of Mario Odyssey on October 27, 2017. We may see a similar pattern with the arrival of the next mainline Mario game for Nintendo Switch 2.
Regardless of when the next mainline Mario title will see the light of day, a few things are certain. Firstly, the game won’t be a cross-gen release, and will be available exclusively for Switch 2. Secondly, it will be priced 80 US Dollars / 80 Euros digitally and 90 US Dollars / 90 Euros at retail instead of the standard pricing of 70 US Dollars / 70 Euros digitally and 80 US Dollars / 80 Euros.
During an earlier interview, Bowser was asked about the difference in pricing of Nintendo Switch 2 titles. He termed it as “variable pricing,” saying that the company will look at each game, and the development that goes into it, the breadth and depth of the gameplay, the durability over time and the repeatability of gameplay experiences, and many other factors in order to determine the right price point for a Switch 2 game. Based on the aforementioned criteria, we feel that a new mainline Mario would certainly rank among the higher priced games.
