Aonuma mentioned that the reason why the development team has no plans to release downloadable content for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom this time is because they feel that they have done all that they can do to create an enjoyable experience for players. He further clarified that the reason him and the development team decided to make this a sequel to the previous work was because he thought there was value in experiencing a new game in the same version Hyrule.

According to Aonuma, if a new reason arises, the team may revisit to the same world once again. Whether it’s a sequel or brand new work, he believes that it’s going to be a completely new game, and he hopes that fans will look forward to it.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a 2023 action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It serves as a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from 2017, maintaining elements such as the open-world setting of Hyrule, now expanded to enable more vertical exploration. The game’s narrative revolves around Link’s quest to locate Princess Zelda and thwart the Demon King’s world-threatening ambitions.

The concept for “Tears of the Kingdom” emerged when the ideas for Breath of the Wild’s DLC exceeded the project’s scope. Nintendo’s Entertainment Planning & Development (EPD) division led the game’s development, with the original “Breath of the Wild” director, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, and producer, Eiji Aonuma, returning to their respective roles.
