Okami and Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya has shared the meaning behind the name of his brand new game development studio, Clovers.
In an official press release, Clovers head and chief game designer Hideki Kamiya shared that he has launched the new game development studio together with some trusted colleagues. He mentioned that he left Platinum Games to search for a place where he could work on games according to his creative beliefs. With the help of encouraging colleagues who share the same beliefs, he was able to find that place at Clovers, where he is currently working on the Okami sequel as director.
According to Kamiya, the logo for Clovers is based on the image of a four-leaf clover. Each leaf is made of the letter “C” , and all four of them come together to form a clover. He described the studio as a group that values the four Cs, in keeping with its logo . He referred to his colleagues as “C” LOVERS.
As per the studio head, the four Cs stand for the following:
- Challenge – to continue to take on new challenges
- Creativity – to continue to create
- Craftsmanship – to continue to be particular
- Fourth “C”
Kamiya described the fourth “C” as one that each employee holds dear. As per him, this is “The Clovers Spirit” that they hold in their hearts. At Clovers, developers never forget to take on new challenges, and they put their heart and soul into every detail to create games that players can enjoy and say, “This is the game I wanted to play.”
Back in July, during an interview on the UNSEEN YouTube channel, Kamiya had expressed his lingering sense of duty to continue the story of Okami, which he felt was left incomplete. As we now know, his voice was subsequently heard by Capcom, prompting the publisher to collaborate with the creator for the sequel.
