The Nintendo Museum officially opened on October 2,2024 . It is located in Uji, Kyoto as a reservation-only facility where visitors can learn about the company’s history. It contains a section where taking photographs is prohibited. The area hosts confidential console prototypes on display that are only meant to be seen by visitors. However, some foreigners visiting the museum have illegally managed to take pictures of said prototypes and spread them on the internet.

Similar disturbance was recently created by some visitors at the Nintendo Museum when they unplugged the cords connecting the controllers in the area where the Super Nintendo games are installed to check whether they are running on an emulator.

Previously, during an interview, legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto delved into the various conditions that came together to create the Nintendo Museum. By preserving all of Nintendo’s past assets at the museum, Miyamoto hopes that not only the company’s employees, but also people who have known the company for up to three generations of parents and children, will see them and understand what it is all about.

Miyamoto hopes that people will understand Nintendo in this manner, and not involve the company in the “game wars” that is all about high specs and how to improve the performance of game consoles. He said that he had the museum made because he thought it would be a good opportunity to let people understand that Nintendo will continue to create things that are unique to the company using various technologies that exist today.
