Persona 3 Reload Demo on Switch 2 Shows Similarities to PS4, Falls Short of PS5 Version

The demo of Persona 3 Reload has finally arrived on the Nintendo Switch 2, offering fans their first chance to see how the remake performs on the hardware. While Atlus’ role-playing title has already launched across other platforms, the Switch 2 release is scheduled for October 23, 2025, giving Nintendo owners a taste of what to expect.

Initial comparisons suggest that the Switch 2 version looks remarkably similar to the PlayStation 4 edition, running at a native resolution of 1080p and capped at 30 frames per second. The console does benefit from 4K output, which gives the presentation a sharper edge compared to the older Sony system, though the underlying assets and performance remain largely the same. Some players have expressed disappointment at the lack of significant improvements, noting that expectations were higher for this new hardware. It remains to be seen whether any optimizations are made before the final release.

On the more powerful consoles, Persona 3 Reload shows a notable jump in visual fidelity. Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions render at a native 4K resolution with a target of 60 frames per second during gameplay. These versions also feature ray-traced reflections, although their implementation is fairly limited, relying on fallback techniques like screen space reflections and planar reflections. Differences between Sony and Microsoft’s high-end machines are minimal, primarily restricted to lighting variations.

The Xbox Series S version offers a more modest experience, capped at 1080p with no ray tracing support and reduced shadow quality. However, like its more advanced counterparts, it still aims for 60 frames per second in gameplay, which it manages consistently. A small exception exists on the Xbox Series X, where frame rates have been observed dropping below 60 in the mall area, likely due to the strain of ray-traced reflections. Across all three systems, cutscenes are locked at 30 frames per second, ensuring uniformity in narrative sequences.

Persona 3 Reload was first released on February 2, 2024, for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. Developed and published by Atlus, the remake reimagines the beloved 2006 entry with modern visuals, revised art direction, and newly arranged music. The title has been well-received since launch, selling over one million copies in its first week and marking itself as the fastest entry in the series to reach that milestone.
