Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer would like to see the revival of Xbox’s Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Crimson Skies, and more.

In an interview during IGN Japan’s Day 2 Tokyo Game Show 2025 stream, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer was asked about the dormant Xbox first-party franchises he wants to see brought back. In response, he said that he wants to see the revival of Xbox’s Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Crimson Skies, and MechAssault.

Spencer cautioned, however, that nothing has yet been officially confirmed, suggesting that new entries in none of the aforementioned franchises are actually in development. That said, it looks like the intent to being them back is certainly there. It’s also worth remembering that during an interview with Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier last year, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey creator Hironobu Sakaguchi said that he had no interest in bringing either game to modern platforms. As such, any sort of remaster or remake will likely be handled by an external studio.

The Microsoft Gaming CEO also expressed his happiness with the Gears of War franchise being back, likely referring to the recently released Gears of War: Reloaded and the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day.

Lost Odyssey is a role-playing game created by Mistwalker and Feelplus, and published by Microsoft Game Studios exclusively for the Xbox 360. It debuted in Japan in 2007 and later launched in Western markets in 2008. The narrative centers on Kaim, an immortal who has lost his memories. As he struggles with threats brought about by a looming magical industrial revolution, he also experiences the emotional burden of memories gradually resurfacing. Gameplay retains classic JRPG conventions such as a world map, random enemy encounters, and a turn-based battle system.

Blue Dragon is another role-playing game developed by Mistwalker and Artoon in partnership with Microsoft Game Studios Japan, and released by Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox 360. Designed by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the Final Fantasy series, the game also marks Mistwalker’s debut title and Sakaguchi’s first major project outside of Square Enix.
