Nintendo has confirmed that Pikmin 4 will receive a free content update in November, introducing several new features designed to enhance exploration and customization. The update includes Decor Pikmin, an in-game photo mode, and two new difficulty settings, further expanding the gameplay experience for both new and returning players.
Decor Pikmin, first introduced in the Pikmin Bloom mobile app, are making their debut on the Nintendo Switch. These uniquely adorned creatures can be found wearing a range of items from the environment, such as doughnuts, wind-up toys, and snow hats. Players can collect Decor Pikmin during their expeditions and even transfer them between Pikmin 4 and Pikmin Bloom, with some exclusive variations available only in the console version.
The update also adds a Field Camera feature, allowing players to capture in-game moments and personalize photos with frames, filters, and stamps. The camera tool provides creative flexibility, letting users adjust angles, hide characters, and potentially uncover new Decor Pikmin through its use.
In addition to these cosmetic and creative updates, Nintendo is introducing two new gameplay options aimed at broadening accessibility and replayability. The new Relaxed Mode allows players to explore without the threat of enemy aggression unless provoked, ideal for those who prefer a calmer pace. Conversely, Fierce Mode increases the intensity of encounters for players seeking a greater challenge. Both options can be selected when starting a new save or switched at any point during play.
Nintendo also announced that Pikmin Bloom—the companion mobile game co-developed with Niantic—is celebrating its fourth anniversary by introducing Ice Pikmin, first seen in Pikmin 4. The update aligns with the console release, further connecting the two experiences. Additionally, Nintendo Pictures has released a short animation titled “Close to You,” available through the Nintendo Today app and official Nintendo social channels, highlighting the series’ trademark charm and emotional tone.
Pikmin 4 originally launched in July 2023 and remains one of the best-selling entries in the series. Players take on the role of a new member of the Rescue Corps, joined by their canine companion Oatchi and a squad of Pikmin, as they navigate an uncharted planet filled with hidden treasures and stranded explorers. The title supports cooperative play on a single system and includes Dandori Battles, a competitive mode focused on efficiency and resource management.
The new update will be available as a free download for Pikmin 4 owners on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in November. Players new to the franchise can try the free demo available on the Nintendo eShop, with progress transferable to the full game upon purchase.
