PS Plus subscribers are warned not to download the Extra tier version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon if they’ve already claimed the game via the Essential tier.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon was made available to PS Plus Essential members back in August, 2022. Those who added the game to their PSN account library can continue to access it provided they are currently subscribed. However, it turns out there’s a way current PS Plus Extra subscribers can lose access if they aren’t careful.
In order to make sure that you don’t lose access to your PS Plus Essential version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, make sure that you only download the title from your library and not via the PS Plus Extra catalog. The latter will overwrite the PS Plus Essential version’s license, and you will lose access to the game once your PS Plus Extra subscription runs out or once it leaves the catalog.
Such mishaps happen due to PlayStation Network’s licensing system, which is in need of a major overhaul. PS Plus Extra members have also been unable to add some PS Plus Essential monthly titles to their account library that they had previously played via the PS Plus Extra game catalog. The system was likely developed for just one PS Plus tier, and the addition of two new tiers has led to problems for for end users.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a role-playing game in the popular Yakuza series developed and published by Sega. On January 16, 2020, the PlayStation 4 version of the Yakuza franchise’s first turn-based RPG was made available in Japan and Asia. On November 10, 2020, the game was released in the west for the PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. It includes additional outfits, English voice overs, and certain previously paid DLC. Like a Dragon offers a new protagonist named Ichiban Kasuga as opposed to earlier Yakuza games that focused on the life of Kazuma Kiryu, a man attempting to lead a regular life after quitting the yakuza lifestyle. After being in prison for 18 years, only to then be betrayed by his former boss, Ichiban embarks on a personal mission to become a “hero” and uncover the reason behind his betrayal alongside his companions.
