Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Revealed, Starter Pokémon, World Map, and More Details

Game Freak has announced a new generation of Pokémon games with the confirmation that Nintendo Switch will get Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield this year. Here are all the details on the starters and world map for this new Pokémon game.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are generation 8 of Pokémon. They will feature brand new starters: Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. The game is set in a new region called Galar.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Starter Pokémon

Grookey (Grass-type)

A mischievous chimp Pokemon that is full of boundless curiosity.

Scorbunny (Fire-type)

A rabbit Pokemon that is always running about, bursting with energy.

Sobble (Water-type)

A somewhat timid lizard Pokemon that shoots out attacks as it hides itself in the water.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield World Map: Galar Region

Galar is an expansive region with diverse environments— an idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forest, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and the Pokemon who live there work together closely to develop the industries in the region. Fans will have the opportunity to visit various Gyms in the Galar region in their quest to become Champion. They will not be alone, since the newly discovered Pokemon they choose to be their first partner will be by their side.

This announcement was made in a new Pokémon direct where the release date was confirmed in addition to showing plenty of gameplay footage. This is the first new generation Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch after last year’s Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee.

You don’t have to wait long for these brand new Pokémon games since Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Sheild will be out worldwide in late 2019.
