PS4 System Update 12.50 Released – Minor Usability Improvements Detailed

by Ali Haider

Sony has rolled out a new PS4 system software update, version 12.50, continuing its trend of minor usability refinements for the legacy console. As the PS4 nears the end of its update cycle, Sony has primarily focused on improving system stability and refining on-screen messaging.

PS4 Update 12.50 Patch Notes:

  • Improved messages and usability on some screens.

This update follows previous system software patches such as version 12.02, which addressed security fixes, and version 12.00, which made similar usability adjustments. With Sony no longer introducing major new features for the PS4, updates are now largely focused on refinements and security enhancements.

The PS4 remains a supported platform, but with Sony shifting its primary focus to PlayStation 5, new feature updates are unlikely. The update is now available for download, and users can install it via the system settings.

Sony has released a new system software update for the PS5 alongside today’s PS4 update. Key features include:

  • Activity cards now show full details, aiding in tracking progress.
  • Support for Unicode 16.0 emojis in messages.
  • Parental control adjustments: “Late Teens or Older” now defaults Communication and User-Generated Content to Restrict.
  • Improvements in system performance and stability.
  • Usability enhancements for messages and system screens.
