Sony has just released a new PS5 firmware update today that will update the system software to 21.02-04.02.00.02. This follows a recent major update adding SSD support.
According to the official changelog for this PS5 firmware update, it only appears to improve the system performance. It is more of a stability update rather than a feature update as was the case with the last one.
PS5 Firmware Update 21.02-04.02.00.02 Changelog
- This system software update improves system performance.
As seen in the changelog, there is nothing special in this firmware. All we have is a generic system performance improvement message that doesn’t appear to reveal much if any information on the changes. It is likely that there are some internal changes implemented by Sony that add or modify the system software, but so far, we don’t have anything in this regard.
Sony usually releases a major firmware update to address new features or implement fixes that have been reported so far. The last firmware update added support for the M.2 SSD allowing users to increase their internal storage.
If you have noticed any changes after installing this update, let us know in the comments below. The official website hasn’t been updated with the changelog, but Sony may detail some of the changes there.
