Capcom Reportedly Began Pre-Production on Original Resident Evil Remake in 2025

A new rumour suggests Capcom has already begun work on a remake of the original Resident Evil 1 Remake, with development reportedly entering pre-production around August or September 2025.

The claim comes from Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem, who responded to questions on X about the project’s status. According to the leaker, “Yes, it started early production nearly a year ago (I hear last August-September is when it started pre-production), it’ll probably enter full production after Resident Evil Veronica is finished with its crunch period it’s in right now.”

The latest comments build on previous claims from Dusk Golem, who had reported that Capcom was moving forward with a remake of the 1996 survival horror classic. At the time, he suggested that the project had progressed beyond the discussion stage, writing, “I’m aware that more recently full production on a RE:1 Remake has gone underway.”

Earlier reports from Dusk Golem also outlined what he described as Capcom’s broader roadmap for the series, including a new mainline Resident Evil title targeting a 2029 release window, although he noted development timelines could change.

Capcom has not announced a remake of the original Resident Evil. As with all rumours, they should be treated with caution until the company shares formal details.
