Resident Evil Reaches $384 Million Worldwide as It Becomes Zach Cregger’s Highest-Grossing Film

by Salal Awan

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil continues to show strong staying power at the US box office, earning an estimated $3 million during its sixth weekend in theatres. The horror reboot recorded a relatively modest 44.9% decline from the previous weekend despite losing another 557 theatres, bringing its domestic total to approximately $153.7 million.

The latest figures make Resident Evil the highest-grossing film of Cregger’s career, surpassing Weapons, which earned $151.6 million domestically. The film is now approaching a projected domestic finish of around $160 million.

Sony’s Resident Evil also added an estimated $10.3 million internationally over the weekend. Its international total has reached approximately $230.8 million, bringing its worldwide box office gross to an estimated $384.5 million.

The film’s continued performance is particularly notable given its sixth-weekend decline and reduced theatrical footprint. Maintaining a place among the top 10 domestic releases at this stage of its run has helped it continue adding to its cumulative earnings while newer films compete for audiences.

Released on September 18, 2026, Resident Evil is a live-action horror reboot directed by Cregger and co-written with Shay Hatten. The film stars Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser, adapting Capcom’s long-running survival horror franchise for the big screen.

Before Resident Evil, Cregger established himself in the horror genre with Barbarian and Weapons. Barbarian earned approximately $45.4 million domestically and $47.6 million worldwide, while Weapons collected $151.6 million in the US and around $270.1 million globally.

With its domestic gross now above Weapons and its worldwide total approaching $400 million, Resident Evil has become the biggest box office success of Cregger’s directing career.
