DC Studios’ Clayface has opened at No. 1 at the US box office, earning an estimated $24 million during its debut weekend. The R-rated horror film also brought in approximately $19 million internationally, giving it a worldwide opening of $43 million against a reported production budget of $44 million.
The film earned $10.4 million domestically on its opening day, including $3.5 million from Thursday previews. Its debut falls below the opening weekends of several recent comic book films, but its relatively modest production budget means it does not need to match the box office totals of more expensive superhero releases to have a chance of becoming profitable.
Audience reactions have been encouraging. Clayface holds a reported 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A- CinemaScore, suggesting positive word of mouth could help it maintain momentum beyond its opening weekend.
The film’s $24 million domestic debut is also below the $37.1 million opening reported for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. However, the two DC releases operate on different production scales, with Clayface carrying a reported $44 million production budget before marketing costs.
Directed by James Watkins, Clayface centres on the Batman villain and takes DC Studios into R-rated body horror. The film stars Tom Rhys Harries and was released in North American theatres on October 23, 2026, with international screenings beginning earlier that week.
