Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami wants Killer7 creator Suda 51 to work on a sequel to the 2005 action adventure game.

During Grasshopper Direct 2024 on YouTube, Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and Killer7 creator got into a conversation about the possibility of a sequel to the latter. Mikami hoped to someday have the opportunity to see a sequel. He added that what matters most is whether or not Suda 51 wants to make it.

Killer 7 sequel

Suda 51 responded by saying that he may make a sequel or a complete edition someday. Mikami jokingly said that the idea of a complete edition was “kinda lame”. Suda 51 disagreed, saying that in the current version of Killer7, Coyote doesn’t really speak, but he was originally planned to have lots of dialogue. He thought of a name for the sequel’s title, and then came up with Killer7: Beyond after giving it some thought. Mikami agreed, saying that fans would probably love to see a complete edition.

According to Suda 51, both a complete edition and a sequel to Killer7 are doable. He added that the development team will have to decide which comes first. Mikami expressed his excitement over the development of both titles, as Killer7 one of his personal favorite games.

For the uninitiated, Killer7 is a 2005 action adventure game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and Capcom, and published by Capcom for the GameCube and PlayStation 2. It was written and directed by Suda 51 and produced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi. The story follows an elite group of assassins called the “killer7,” who are physical manifestations of a man named Harman Smith. They perform hits on behalf of the United States government and uncover a deeper conspiracy involving Japan’s role in U.S. politics and secrets about their organization. Killer7 features first-person shooter elements and on-rails controls, alongside adventure-style gameplay that is comparable to Myst and Snatcher.
