Rockstar Reportedly Tested GTA 6 Running on Nintendo Switch 2 Hardware

Rockstar Games may have explored the possibility of bringing Grand Theft Auto VI to the Nintendo Switch 2, according to comments shared by industry insider NateTheHate on Twitter. The insider stated that Rockstar had been conducting internal tests to see whether the anticipated open-world title could run on the new hardware. These remarks have sparked speculation, but the insider stressed that such evaluations do not guarantee a final product.

In a direct remark, Nate wrote, “I said a while ago that R was doing tests to bring it to Switch 2; but tests don’t always equal release. I know an effort has been made to see if they can bring it to the platform. I don’t know the current state of that effort.”* He later added that experimentation of this kind is common, noting in a follow up post that publishers routinely test hardware without committing to full development. He explained, “Experimenting doesn’t equal ‘in development’ & companies often test to see if a game is possible on hardware.” These statements align with the general pattern of early testing often done in the industry, which can range from basic feasibility assessments to more in-depth performance checks that still may not advance beyond preliminary stages.

Further questions from followers drew additional comments from the insider on related topics. When asked about the possibility of a Grand Theft Auto IV port, he clarified, “I’ve never heard about a GTA IV port/remaster.” Questions also extended beyond Rockstar. Silent Hill 2 was another subject of speculation, and Nate stated, “Have heard intent to bring to SW2 exists.” His responses continued with short confirmations or disclaimers regarding Half Life 3, saying, “They have not,” when asked whether Valve had ever officially announced the project, and later adding, “Yes — but info is mixed & truths are uncertain.”

These comments arrive as anticipation grows for Grand Theft Auto VI itself. The game is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s modern fictional state inspired by Florida, which includes Vice City and surrounding wetlands. The story follows Lucia and Jason as they become entangled in a criminal conspiracy against a backdrop shaped by social media culture. After several delays for refinement, Rockstar has committed to a November 19, 2026, launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
