Square Enix has shared new details about Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, introducing five recruitable companions alongside new information on exploration, equipment crafting, character progression, and battle systems. The RPG is scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The newly revealed companions include the Minstrel, a wandering bard, and Tatyana, a mysterious girl who uses a different name whenever players encounter her. Players can also meet Nora, who runs Pidona’s smithing workshop, and Muse, the surviving daughter of House Claudius who lives in the town’s old quarter. Charl, a former Imperial Guard captain, serves as Muse’s personal guard.
Square Enix also outlined several systems that will help players develop their party and prepare for battles.
New gameplay features include:
- Renown: Completing quests and objectives increases the player’s rank, unlocking benefits such as additional ability slots and expanded United Attacks.
- Forging and Reforging: Players can craft and improve equipment at the Pidona Workshop. Finding smiths scattered throughout the world expands the workshop’s capabilities.
- Finding Mr. S: Tracking down the familiar SaGa character across the world earns stickers that unlock bonuses, including faster forging.
- New Formations: The game introduces formations new to the SaGa series, including Triple Incisors and Rampaging Mammoth.
- Ley Lines: Elemental alignments on the battlefield strengthen spells of the corresponding school. Players can temporarily change these alignments by using opposing elemental techniques and spells.
The Digital Deluxe Edition will include additional costumes, equipment, battle formations, and other content. Buyers who purchase the edition before launch can also receive up to 72 hours of early access. Pre-orders and early purchases include the Bonus Accessories Set.
Square Enix also announced that Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven has surpassed 1 million units sold since its 2024 release. The milestone makes it the first entry in the series since SaGa Frontier to reach that sales figure. The announcement was accompanied by new artwork from artist Yoshiro Ambe.
