The PC port of Radical Entertainment and EC Digital’s open-world action game, Scarface: The World is Yours, has raised concerns, as community fixes have been found patched in the game installation.
The surprise release of Scarface: The World Is Yours on PC has quickly turned controversial after players discovered that the build being distributed on Steam and Epic Games Store includes community-created patches without prior notice to their developers.
Twitter/X user Wario64 reported that the PC release of Scarface: The World is Yours includes files mentioning SilentPatch and FusionFix. He pointed out that this could end up being a scam listing, given the odd situation. Reddit user PCMachinima also discovered that the game’s files came with SilentPatch and FusionFix mods pre-installed. “It looks like they just uploaded the full game. If they did it illegally, then the license holder will have to submit a DMCA, I guess…” They also shared a link to a file browser of the build via EGData.
Perhaps most telling is the response from the creators of the included fixes. Silent, developer of the SilentPatch mod, stated on Twitter/X: “This release reportedly ships SilentPatch and Fusion Fix, and none of us were contacted about this in advance (which isn’t necessary as per the license, but would be nice).” They claimed with certainty that the holder of the Scarface license wasn’t willing to re-release the game, referring to this release as “suspect.” The modder further noted that they would look into the matter. “I’m going to inquire for further information to the best of my abilities, but so far I doubt that release was cleared with Universal.”
The situation has raised concerns regarding the authenticity of the PC release of Scarface: The World is Yours, and whether proper licensing or authorization was obtained. Furthermore, Valve and Epic Games are expected to investigate the possibility of an elaborate scam.
