Known Call of Duty insiders TheGhostOfHope and charlieINTEL have shared conflicting rumors regarding the setting for the Sledgehammer Games developed 2027 Call of Duty game. According to the former, the game will be set somewhere during the late 1990s and early 2000s, while the latter claims it will be set in the modern era. Though, both insiders appear to be in agreement that the unannounced title will be based on a brand new sub-franchise with a completely new cast of characters.
TheGhostOfHope also shared some details regarding the gameplay and modes featured in the 2027 Call of Duty title. According to them, the plan is for the game to feature omnimovement with no Tactical Sprint. Meanwhile a big discussion is currently underway at Sledgehammer Games on whether the Pick Ten system, which gives the player the ability to choose ten elements to make up their loadout, will be making a return. Furthermore, Zombies is currently not planned to be featured in the upcoming Call of Duty game.
Lastly, the insider claimed that G3T_H1GH, a limited-time multiplayer mode featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, will also be returning in Call of Duty 2027. The parkour-focused mode that challenges players to climb as high as possible before the timer runs out. Players make their way through a series of obstacles and race against others to be the first to reach the highest point.
Going by a recent job listing for the position of Senior Technical Artist (Animation tools) at Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty 2027 may be set for release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Back when Microsoft acquired Activision, it revealed plans to bring the long-running first-person shooter series to Nintendo platforms. It’s likely that the software giant is now going forward with those plans.
