Solo Leveling Arise Update Adds SSR Hunter Christopher Reed

by Greg Martin

Netmarble has released a major new update for Solo Leveling Arise, introducing a high-profile SSR Hunter alongside sweeping changes to the game’s class structure and combat systems. The update is now live and marks one of the most significant gameplay revisions since the action RPG launched.

Headlining the update is the arrival of Christopher Reed, a National Level SSR Hunter who specializes in fire-based elemental damage. Reed is categorized as an Elemental Stacker, a newly emphasized role that revolves around building and detonating elemental effects during combat. His kit centers on mana-driven attacks, including the skill Foul Play, which charges and launches a large magic sphere at enemies, and the ultimate ability Zero to a Hundred, which drops a meteor-like burst of concentrated magic for heavy damage.

Alongside Reed’s debut, Netmarble has overhauled the game’s hunter class system. The previous six class types have been condensed into four broader roles based on their in-game function. These are Striker, Breaker, Supporter, and Elemental Stacker. The restructuring is closely tied to new combat mechanics introduced in this update, namely Elemental Accumulation and Overload Damage, which are designed to add more strategic depth to elemental matchups.

Elemental Stackers play a central role in these mechanics by exploiting enemy elemental weaknesses to charge elemental gauges. Once a gauge reaches 100 percent, enemies enter an Overload state, allowing players to inflict increased damage that bypasses damage reduction tied to the Break Gauge. This system creates new opportunities for coordinated team play and rewards precise elemental targeting during encounters.

The update also expands the game’s cooperative offerings with the introduction of a new real-time co-op mode called Edge of Illusion and Dreams. This mode allows two players to team up through random matchmaking or private rooms with friends or guild members. As players progress through stages, difficulty ramps up, including mechanics that reduce bosses’ elemental weaknesses at higher tiers. The mode will be available through Hunter Mode this month, letting players control a three-hunter team against powerful enemies. The first featured boss in this content is Flames of Calamity Kamish.

Additional updates include a new progression system called Hunter Co-op Training, which allows players to improve stats through element- and class-specific training paths. The main story has also been expanded with the addition of Hidden Chapters 9 and 10 in Hard and Reverse Hard difficulties. Players can also obtain a new SSR Light-type weapon for Sung Jinwoo, the Illusionblade, which further expands build options.

Solo Leveling Arise adapts the popular Solo Leveling webtoon into an action-focused game experience, following Jinwoo’s rise in power through fast-paced combat and character progression. Players can fight alongside familiar hunters from the series, customize their playstyle through skills and weapons, and summon Jinwoo’s signature Army of Shadows using the iconic command Arise.
