Square Enix has announced a holiday promotion offering discounted prices on its Dragon Quest HD-2D Erdrick Trilogy, including Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. The limited-time sale applies across digital storefronts and is positioned as a seasonal opportunity for both longtime fans and newcomers to experience the reimagined trilogy.
As part of the promotion, Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake is available at a 20 percent discount. The offer runs from December 18 through January 5 on Steam, and from December 18 through January 7 on the Microsoft Store. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is discounted by 40 percent during the same periods, offering a deeper price cut for the trilogy’s chronological starting point. Square Enix is also offering the Dragon Quest HD-2D Erdrick Trilogy Collection at 20 percent off on both platforms, with identical sale windows.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake serves as a modern reimagining of the 1988 original and represents the narrative beginning of the Erdrick saga. Developed by Square Enix in collaboration with Artdink, the remake adopts the HD-2D visual style, combining high definition 3D environments with detailed pixel art characters. The game follows a young hero tasked with completing a quest left unfinished by their father, confronting the Archfiend Baramos along the way. The remake officially launched on November 14, 2024, and is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
Beyond its visual overhaul, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake introduces new gameplay elements, including the Monster Wrangler vocation, an orchestral soundtrack, and several quality of life improvements such as auto battle options and adjustable difficulty settings. These additions aim to modernize the experience while preserving the structure of the original adventure.
Completing the trilogy, Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake brings the concluding chapters of the Erdrick storyline to modern platforms. Released on October 30, 2025, the collection includes both games in a single package, rebuilt using the same HD-2D presentation. Dragon Quest I retains its focused, solo hero structure, while Dragon Quest II expands into a party-based system and introduces an additional playable character to form a four-member group.
Together, the discounted titles offer a complete retelling of the Erdrick Trilogy with updated visuals, refined systems, and added content. For players looking to revisit the classics or experience them for the first time, the holiday sale provides a straightforward entry point, even if some long-standing quirks of the series still manage to shine through.
