Square Enix to End Services for Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars in Japan

Square Enix has announced that two of its long-running mobile titles, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars, will officially end service in Japan on October 31, 2025. Both games, each with a decade-long history, will conclude operations at noon on the specified date.

In a statement shared with players, the development teams expressed gratitude for the years of support. Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, originally launched in 2015, will mark its conclusion with a “Grand Finale Campaign.” This in-game event will feature special content celebrating the characters and storylines that have spanned five seasons. Following the shutdown, a special “Memorial Edition” application will be distributed for iOS and Android, allowing fans to continue viewing units and vision cards even after servers are taken offline.

The operations team noted, “To all the fans who have played Final Fantasy Brave Exvius for 10 long years, the entire operations team expresses our heartfelt gratitude.” Billing for in-game purchases has already been suspended as of August 25, with the finale campaign beginning on the same day.

Meanwhile, Dragon Quest of the Stars, which also launched in 2015, will end its service on the same date. The game had already ceased its global version in 2021, leaving only the Japanese edition in operation. The developers explained the decision, stating it had become difficult to continue offering a level of service that satisfied players. Leading up to its closure, the game will continue to receive new events, including special 10th anniversary content, ensuring players can enjoy its final months.

The Dragon Quest of the Stars team confirmed that refunds will be offered for unused premium currency, in accordance with Japan’s Payment Services Act. Additionally, subscription-based services such as the Star Adventurer Passport have already halted renewals as of August 25.

Both titles leave behind a considerable legacy within Square Enix’s mobile catalog. Final Fantasy Brave Exvius has been downloaded over 40 million times worldwide, spawning a spin-off tactical RPG, War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, which remains active. Dragon Quest of the Stars provided fans of the franchise with a touch-based role-playing experience and maintained a dedicated following for nearly a decade despite its earlier global closure.
