EA and Respawn Entertainment’s action adventure game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, is now available for PS4, and if you’re looking to know how it compares to the already existing PS5 version, read ahead.
As one would expect, the PS4 and PS4 Pro versions of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor makes some glaring graphical compromises compared to their PS5 counterpart running in its Performance mode. The previous-gen version has received major cutbacks in terms of textures, foliage density, Level of Detail (LOD), lighting, shadows, and other graphical features. That said, it still manages to look respectable given the age and capabilities of the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
n terms of image quality, the PS4 version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor runs at a dynamic resolution that is commonly at 720p, while the PS4 Pro pushes it further to 900p. Meanwhile, the PS5 version runs at a dynamic resolution that is commonly at 1080p in Quality mode and 792p in Performance mode.
With regards to performance, both the PS4 and PS4 Pro versions of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor target and largely deliver a frame rate of 30 fps. Meanwhile, the PS5 version targets a frame rate of 30 fps in Quality mode and 60 fps in Performance mode, and largely maintains it in both cases.
As far as load times are concerned, the PS5 version has a major advantage over the PS4 and PS4 Pro versions owing to its high-speed SSD. The PS4 version loads over a minute slower than the PS5 version, while the PS4 Pro is around 10 seconds quicker than the base console.
On the whole, the previous-gen version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is an impressive effort, and the development team at Respawn Entertainment has made some smart graphical compromises in order to roughly retain the look and feel of the current-gen version. That said, it does take a lot away from the experience, and those who have yet to play the game ought to give it a go on the PS5 (or better yet, wait for a PS5 Pro patch!)
