Stardew Valley has quietly launched on Nintendo Switch 2, appearing without prior announcement and offering a free upgrade path for players who already own the game on the original Nintendo Switch. The Switch 2 version can currently be claimed directly through the console, while users searching on desktop storefronts may not see the upgrade option. The standalone price for new buyers on Switch 2 is listed at $14.99.
The unannounced release was first shared by Wario64, who also confirmed that the upgrade process is only visible when accessed directly on the Switch 2 hardware. ConcernedApe has never officially confirmed any release date for the Switch 2 upgrade aside from the Fall 2025 release window, but the timing aligns with Christmas, making it a nice present for fans and those who were waiting for it.
According to the Nintendo eShop description, Stardew Valley places players in the role of a new resident who inherits a neglected farm plot from their grandfather. With limited tools and resources, players are tasked with rebuilding the farm while adapting to life in the valley. The game’s narrative highlights the decline of traditional community life following the arrival of the Joja Corporation, leaving the once vibrant community center abandoned. Restoring the farm and revitalizing the town form the core motivation, though progress requires steady dedication.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition offers quality-of-life enhancements and improved multiplayer options, including mouse-style controls for easy inventory management and furniture placement. Players can engage in local split-screen play for up to four people or online with up to eight. Additionally, the Game Share feature lets one owner invite three friends to join, regardless of whether they own the game.
Stardew Valley was created by solo developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone and originally released on February 26, 2016, for PC. Since then, it has expanded to numerous platforms, including consoles and mobile devices. As of late 2025, the game has surpassed 41 million units sold globally, reflecting its sustained popularity across nearly a decade.
